Heavy-lift drone work

Drone lifting and transport

Vantage Drone Services now offers drone lifting across Bay of Plenty and Waikato. We fly seedlings, pest traps, supplies and timber into and out of sites that are slow, costly or unsafe to reach on foot or by vehicle.

What this service is for

Some jobs are easy to do and hard to get to. Drone lifting carries the load on a line under the drone, straight from where it is to where it needs to be.

This service is suited to:

  • Forestry seedling delivery to planting crews
  • Pest trap and bait station transport
  • Supplies and equipment into remote or steep sites
  • Branches and timber out for arborists
  • Conservation and restoration projects
  • Building materials onto steep or tight sections
  • Supplies and equipment into remote or steep sites

The aircraft we use

We lift with a DJI Agras T100. DJI rates its standard lifting system at up to 100 kg, including ropes and hooks. The safe load on the day is set by the weather, the site and the load itself, and is often lower.

A built-in weight sensor shows the pilot what each load weighs before it travels. If a load is too heavy, it goes back down and is cut or split smaller.

Case study: Tree removal at Riverhead Tavern

A dead oak leaning over the dock at the Riverhead Tavern had one hard part: getting the timber out. The normal route ran up several sets of stairs, under an awning and past the tavern seating to the truck.

Working with the arborists at Hardfell, we flew each cut section straight from the tree to their truck and chipper. A job planned for around half a day was done in under two hours.

How we approach the job

Every lift is planned before the drone arrives. We look at the loads, the flight path, the landing area, overhead wires, people nearby and the weather.

We agree exclusion zones and calls with your crew before the first lift, and we only fly in suitable wind.

Vantage Drone Services is a CAA Part 102 certified operator, the certification needed to fly a drone of this size.

Why choose Vantage Drone Services

Ben worked for many years as a crane operator and rigger, as well as an arborist, before starting Vantage. With plenty of hands on experience in lifting, worksites and tricky access, he knows what it takes to get the job done safely and efficiently. That practical background is a big part of why Vantage was started using drone technology to find smarter, safer ways to tackle jobs that would traditionally require people, machinery or working at height.

Kahu looks after our lifting enquiries and job planning. He’s a qualified plumber with plenty of construction experience, so he knows how sites run and what crews need to get the job done safely and on time.

FAQs

How much can the drone lift?

DJI rates the T100 at up to 100 kg on its standard lifting system. The safe load for your job depends on the weather, the site and the shape of the load, and we confirm it when we plan the job.

Can you help with tree removal?

Yes, working alongside your arborist. The arborist cuts and rigs each section and the drone flies it to your processing area. It suits sites where carrying material out is slow or risks damage.

Does the weather matter?

Yes. Lifting needs light wind and good visibility. We set a weather window when we book and confirm it on the day.

What do you need to know to quote?

What needs moving, roughly how heavy each load is, where it starts and where it needs to go. Photos of the site help.
